It’s time for a new flagship phone coming from HMD, as the previous flagship, the Nokia 8 is around a year old now. There has been no shortage of rumors with regards to the naming of the newest and upcoming flagship phone coming from Nokia, and now, it seems that we finally have a new name for the upcoming device.
The newest flagship phone will reportedly be called the Nokia 9 Pureview, and this is with accordance to reports coming from the WinFuture journalist, Roland Quandt. The news has emerged around six weeks after it was revealed that HMD Global acquired the trademark that isPureview, from Nokia and Microsoft.
This naming strategy doesn’t come with a huge amount of shock, either, because this upcoming phone won’t be the first Nokia phone to have Pureview integrated in the name. Before, we saw the Nokia 808 Pureview, which started to trend way back in 2012, because of the cutting edge technology that it boasted at that particular time. The device boasted a 41MP camera, which meant that oversampled shots and zoom was enabled. The same branding was also used for another phone, specifically, the Lumia 1020, which came back in 2013, and it too offered a 41MP camera.

While the other phones with the Pureview trademark did boast a 41MP camera, it is by no means necessary that the Nokia 9 too will have a 41MP camera, as Nokia and Microsoft have before used the branding for other phones based upon the camera, too. Devices ranging from the likes of the Lumia 830, to the likes of the Lumia 920, and indeed the Lumia 1520 didn’t actually have 41MP sensors made available to them, however, they did have Pureview anyways, all in accordance to the two companies involved.
So to summarize, the Pureview name doesn’t necessarily point towards a specific type of camera technology, however, what it does mean is that we can indeed expect to have a great camera on our hands, and some type of innovation which we haven’t seen before (hopefully).
There have also been rumors that the Nokia 9 would pack five camera sensors, however, if that doesn’t turn out to be the case, and we see more of a conventional setup, here’s to hoping that the Nokia 9 Pureview will live up to other Pureview-branded phones.
