Just recently, Facebook has launched the new Facebook logo. It poses as quite a simple logo to begin with, which is why it may seem as boring. However, interesting to note is the fact that this logo isn’t exactly for the Facebook application that you and me have installed on our phones or even the web app which appears when you visit the site. Rather, this logo represents Facebook as a company – the same which happens to own the Facebook app, WhatsApp, Instagram, and some other properties.
And hence, this change in logo represents a very interesting proposition – as controversial as it may be. It represents the first formal step in hybridizing the biggest properties owned by Facebook – with these including Facebook, Messenger, Instagram and finally, WhatsApp. In all likelihood, this hybridization process will take place sometime next year.

In an attempt to make users aware that these properties all exist under the Facebook umbrella, the new Facebook logo will start making an appearance when it comes to the branding aspect of these properties. This will help in not making the whole process a jarring one when the hybridization finally takes place next year.
Facebook has plans to bring together the messaging capabilities that Instagram, Messenger and WhatsApp bring about, all this so that users may have encrypted conversations across platforms. In more simpler terms, users will be able to message a friend on WhatsApp, even if they are not following each other on the platform.
With Facebook in its current transitional time, it isn’t exactly clear whether bringing more attention to the fact that the company owns several other platforms is the very best of ideas, however, the social media giant seems to be moving on with it anyways.
