Finally Samsung has prepared to launch the first-ever foldable OLED display panel. In a recent move, Samsung has prepared an “unbreakable” flexible OLED display panel that is going to be used in a foldable smartphone.
According to the company, the new display is all set to be shipped in consumer-ready devices, as it has been certified by Underwriters Laboratories.
Moreover, the new panel will not just reserve for smartphones but it will be useful in other markets like gaming consoles, mobile military devices, and even automobiles.
The flexible panel has been attached with a window overlay and contained an unbreakable substrate.
Although, some flexible displays are already available, however are not as sturdy as the one manufactured by Samsung, says a spokesperson.
Hojung Kim from Samsung Display Company said,
“The fortified plastic window is especially suitable for portable electronic devices not only because of its unbreakable characteristics, but also because of its lightweight, transmissivity and hardness, which are all very similar to glass۔”

In order to check and verify the flexibility, the new flexible panel experienced many durability tests. One of the tests was getting dropped 26 times from a height of around 4 feet. Hence, by going through the entire tests, the results were impressive as the screen panel get no damage with any visible cracks on any of its sides and edges. The functionality was perfect after the tests.
So, after reading all this, it would be clear to you that foldable phones might become mainstream in the coming months. At the same time, Huawei is also working on a flexible handset as recently company filed a patent for its design, and there is no doubt that Huawei is going to be the direct competitor of Samsung in this regard.
It is important to mention here that ZTE has already launched a foldable device, called Axon M, however with two displays it has a visible hinge in between them.
On other side, Samsung’s handset is predictable to come with a single flexible OLED display with no pivot. Hence, in comparison to ZTE it will be more realistic and functional.
