In the latest news surrounding the whole coronavirus pandemic, it has been claimed that scientists based from a California biotech company have actually gone on to find an antibody which has the capabilities to completely block off coronavirus. This discovery is also now being termed by those associated as being a “cure.”
Sorrento Therapeutics that happen to be based in San Diego have reportedly found out that its very own STI-1499 antibody stopped any proceedings that are normally there to be seen entering 100 percent of healthy human cells in petri dish experiments.
This also is just one of the many several antibodies that have been planned to be combined for a special drug going by the name of “cocktail” Sorrento is currently developing. This development procedure is being carried out via a collaboration that is taking place with Mt Sinai School of Medicine in New York.
Moreover, Sorrento was quick to explain the observation that it has potential to produce up to 200,000 doses of the antibody in a month – a production timeline which would make the drug available a lot earlier in comparison to the expected vaccine date.

While the company has indeed filed for emergency approval from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), it hasn’t actually received the green light just yet.
The company’s CEO in Dr Henry Ji recently told Fox : “We want to emphasize there is a cure. There is a solution that works 100 percent. If we have the neutralizing antibody in your body, you don’t need the social distancing. You can open up a society without fear.”
But of course, taking a pragmatic approach, there is some truth to the point that the company cannot actually rightfully say that it has blocked the infection in the human body just yet. This is because of the fact that while the antibody has in fact been tested on cells, it hasn’t actually been tested in people – and so how it may behave within the body or what the potential side effects are remain to be seen.
