FGV launches Cryptocurrency Masters Programme

FGV launches Cryptocurrency Masters Programme. Brazil’s first Master’s degree in crypto finance is set to be launched from the next semester in a Major Sao Paulo based university Fundacao Getulio Vargas {FGV}.

Ricardo Rochman is the program coordinator at FGV who emphasized the need for massive educational resources to be made available for crypto finance master’s degree.

The launch of this degree program is the cause of increasing embracement of virtual currencies on the part of the Brazilian universities, with themes pertinent to digital currency increasingly being incorporated into mainstream tertiary finance studies.

The program coordinator takes the crypto finance as a market with a profound lack of people with expertise. He says that crypto finance has economic & financial fundamentals worth discussing, researching, and taught.

Here is how a 26-year old (Michele Araujo) economics student at FGV attests to the benefits of studying the markets from a non-speculative perspective: “There is a conceptual gain of knowing both the practical applications of the technology and cryptocurrency as an alternative investment.”

Students in Brazile have also taken initiative and established Blockchain Insper which is a combination of a study group and a junior company.

This group reported by a local media was established by two economics students  (Juan Perpetuo and Felipe Santos) in their early twenties. While talking about making the decision to create a blockchain Insper, Mr. Perpetuo said “We had the humility to understand that there is no point in doing something on our own,”. Santos told that first they thought to create a hub facilitating entry for all students and they have a bias of innovation that could set them apart from a junior company.

The blockchain Insper reported to have established partnerships with 5 companies operating in the cryptocurrency industry and providing professionals serving as mentors & consultants to the group, was formed over seven months ago.

With 23 members divided into research teams studying finance, technology, and business alongside the departments tasked with the management & practical execution of marketing, strategy, content, and events, Blockchain Insper are involved with both practical & research activities.

In 2017, Faculty of Economics and Administration at the University Sao Paulo incorporated cryptocurrencies into its Derivatives unit – pioneered by Professor Alan de Genaro.

Some issues, according to Professor Genaro, have to be presented even though the student does not go to work in the finance market. He opines that people have to understand which factors are beneficial and which are not suitable regarding cryptocurrency.
