Having noticed wild and wacky fashion in 2017, we can expect something unexpected for 2018. Artists in 2017, outpaced musicians as the coolest collaborators and a new crop of models were seen with their outsize personalities to the catwalks in New York, London, Paris and Milan.
This time, we are set to put our money on nine trends that will dominate fashion in 2018.
Stop body exposure:
Rather than reveal, new year’s best frocks will conceal the body in a maelstrom of sequins and shine making the Sexiness new in form.
Power of fine art:
The ruling merch-mania of 2017 will give way to a new kind of collaboration, and the upgraded art-fashion pairing in 2018. At Calvin Klein, Raf Simons headlined by adding Andy Warhol screen prints in his Spring 2018 collection, making it the beginning of a multiyear collaboration between the brand and the Warhol Foundation. Over at Gucci, Alessandro Michele, has also embraced the power of fine art. With many other trends, you can bet that where Michele go, others will follow.
Scrunchies:
Though in 2017 every cool girl in your feed was wearing a fitted dad cap, we bet that by next year in summer those embroidered hats will be replaced by scrunchie.

Cargo pants:
Loose and comfortable cargo pants in camouflage, khaki, and army green have been spotted everywhere from the Sacai runway to the Vogue office means that every where. Kaia Gerber is also wearing them.
Jolie-laide sneakers:
Stan Smith of Adidas has reigned supreme as the coolest sneaker for upward of 2 years, but that very trend was upended in 2017 with the rise of ugly pretty kicks. Weighty Triple S sneakers if Balenciaga led the pack, followed by Prada’s neon scuba shoe, Loewe’s elfin suede sneakers, & Yeezy’s Wave Runners. Again, the pendulum might swing back soon to Stans —Vetements plans to release a Stan Smith–inspired shoe the current winter.
Mashed-up prints:
Coming spring, pink will be going strong just as was in 2017, but we will see a new trend emerging too. This new trend would be use of Ultra-clashing prints in a range of bright colors. At Marni, Francesco Risso mashed up florals & plaids, while the street style set has been already remixing optic florals-on-florals.
The micro purse:
Our favorite new bags “carry-nothings” as they are so small that you can barely fit a credit card inside, these teensy totes are going to be dominant in 2018. Rihanna, started 2017’s fanny pack trend, who now has been carrying Jacquemus’s petite purse around Barbados.
Cool girls:
No doubt, social media stars and the high-cheekboned sons & daughters of A-listers will have a place in the fashion world, always, but in 2017 we saw a new crop of cool-girl models rise to the top. Sophie Koella, the French-American model had never walked a runway when we met her back in 2016. This year, she has become a muse to Chloé’s Natacha Ramsay-Levi & a fashion world mainstay without losing any vivacious charm of her.
Dior’s artistic director, Maria Grazia Chiuri, says,
“I cast girls with strong personality,” adding that “That’s what I want. I’m very happy that now there are a lot of models that have really strong personalities.”
