Facebook needs to make it simpler for individuals to find local news from considered sources. The social network is testing another segment inside its app called “Today In,” a new section made up totally of local news, events and announcements.
The test is running in only six cities for the present: New Orleans, La.; Little Rock, Ark.; Billings, Mont.; Peoria, Ill.; Olympia, Wash.; and Binghamton, N.Y. Facebook users who self-recognize as living in those territories will have the capacity to visit the new segment to see local information, similar to stories from local distributers or crisis refreshes from local experts.
Facebook is using machine-learning programming to surface substance in this new segment.
