Facebook new tools will help curb harassment. With the every day increasing harassment cases and the rapidly prevailing germs of this plague in the world, tech companies has started developing strategies to let cases of this disease slow down if not totally ended.
In a similar kind of bid, yesterday Facebook announced that it is set to introduce some new tools that have been aimed at “preventing harassment on Facebook and Messenger“.
The tools announced by Facebook have been created based on feedback both from its users and the organizations for groups that had experienced higher levels of harassment online. Especially the groups related to women and journalists are eager to get introduced these tools because they have faced harassment.
What strategies are being followed by Facebook? First of all it is increasing security features that are aiming at prevention of people from creating fake accounts, including now looking at several signals like IP addresses. This step of the social media platform “Facebook”should help prevent unwanted contact from people some individual has previously blocked for any kind of harassment, so that same person can not create a new account if he is going to create it to add you again.

Facebook is also reportedly adding an ignore feature to mute a conversation sans the sender knowing. If there is a person who is being harassed, sometimes it is still useful to have an ability to access messages from the harasser, in order to see if there is any kind of risk of future danger.
However, if the harasser observes that messages are being actively gone through, that step from harasser can also be risky, and seen as reinforcement or some interaction.
Now, you can mark conversations as “ignore,” which will disable notifications & will move the conversation to Filtered Messages. At that point you can read the conversation without letting the sender or harasser see if they have been read. At the time of launch, this feature will only be available for one on one conversations, but later on, it will expand to group messages too.
Facebook is the platform that already forbids bullying and harassment, but even if content has been removed or accounts are disabled, there are some ways around the rules that can allow people to continue harassing, and, sometimes things simply slip by automated features of Facebook.
We hope, these new tools would help people feel safer on Facebook, because many rely on it to stay in touch with friends & family, even if they currently do not trust it very much.
