Fawad Chaudhary who is the current Minister for Information and Broadcasting has stated that the two major technology giants Facebook and Google will be investing in Pakistan. So far he has only confirmedthis new revelation but is yet to give any further information regarding the saiddevelopment, he did however mention that such plans of investment from the aforementioned renouned companies will prove to be beneficial for the local talent to flourish inthe field of information technology. The minister made told us about this on Monday while briefing the Senate’s Standing Committee on Information and Broadcasting.

Moreover the meeting was chaired by the PTI Senator Faisal Javed and was set in place to discuss the various media-related issues which include the looming doubts on the future role of Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA). Furthermore, the main agenda was, however, deferred for another meeting on the request of Senator Rubina Khalid, KhushbakhatShujaat, and Pir Sabir Shah as only three members could attend the meeting.

Moving on, the Senator Faisal Javed agreed with his fellow Senators basically giving the effect that this was an important issue and should be thoroughly discussed in the next meeting in the presence of more members and during the meeting, the federal minister informed the Senate committee that the government wishes to establish a new regulatory authority for all types of media and thatthey would like to call this organization the “Pakistan Media Regulatory Authority (PMRA)”. He further suggested that the government will take all the stakeholders on board on this matter and further added that the new organization would be free from government intervention.He also wanted to have held meetings with other political leaders to gain a consensus on this matterand to hence take a final decision on the said matter!
