Dubai: RTA aims to bring surveillance cameras to all taxis this year. By the end of the current year, Al, the taxis in Dubai are being said to have surveillance cameras. Dubai’s 10,221 taxis with surveillance cameras will be monitoring drivers’ behaviour and compliance with the professional driving standards.
The Roads and Transport Authority has announced this improvement in the taxis in Dubai on Sunday. As this is the responsibility of the Road and Transport Authority to enhance the level of security for passengers, RTA has already managed to install surveillance camera in more than 6,500 taxis to keep an eye on drivers.
Director of Transportation Systems, at RTA’s Public Transport Agency has claimed that RTA has successfully installed surveillance cameras in about 6,500 taxis while the total fleet comprises 10,221 cabs. Adel Shakri also Saud that remainder of the taxis will be covered this year.
According to Adel Shakri, the addition of surveillance cameras in the taxis are aimed to ensure the compliance of taxi drivers with the rules and principles of professional and moral conducts.

The step taken by RTA will not only safeguard drivers and passengers, rather this system will motivate drivers to observe better standards of behaviour and attitudes towards passengers.
Authorities are allowed to retrieve footage taken by surveillance cameras in taxis if any kind of violation is reported to have taken during the taxi trips. This allowance of retrieving footage is just a bid to eliminate any complaints from service beneficiaries.
Adel Shakri also added that the RTA always seeks to ensure the comfort and security of taxi riders in Dubai with the help of hi-tech devices and techniques used in taxis to maximise riders’ satisfaction.
