In a recent turn of events, Dr Umar Saif, who is the former chairman of Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB), and also the former Advisor to the Chief Minister of Punjab, has now been officially appointed as the new Chief Digital Officer of the Jang Media Group.
He will now presumably go on to head all the digital related departments of both the Jang daily newspaper, as well as the Geo News Urdu Television Network. The news has been confirmed by a journalist based in Geo News, who then proceeded towards welcoming Umar Saif to the company.

Talat Aslam, who is the senior editor of The News, also went on to retweet this announcement on Twitter. While made official by the company, the news hasn’t actually been confirmed by Dr. Umar Saif himself, however, he has gone on to hint towards the announcement via a tweet.
Dr. Umar Saif, who is also the winner of Sitara-e-Imtiaz Award, has also in the past gone on to serve as the Vice Chancellor of Information Technology University. He was also appointed as the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) chair for employing Information and Communication Technology for Development (ICTD), with this happening all the way back in April of 2018.

Dr. Umar is also a founder a Plan9, which happens to be Pakistan’s largest startup incubator, and he is often given credit for being one, if not the main forces that was behind the IT ecosystem based in Pakistan.
