Dish network is a US based direct-broadcast satellite service provider. Through this the company is providing satellite television and satellite internet services. The company is now planning to use their spectrum assets to stir the “Narrow Band Internet of Things”. This recent success in modern technology will be hopefully launched by March 2020.
In a document submitted to the Federal Communication Commission (FCC) the company said that if they will use their spectrum in the AWS-4 Band and lower 700 MHz block to construct LTE network, it will do nothing but will be an exact copy of the work of their rivals. Their new technology can be a change in the field and can better work on supporting next generation applications.
In the document Dish further said that “ we do not believe that it serves the public interest or make the business sense to build out a 4G/LTE network now that would duplicate networks already offered by the wireless incumbents, and subsequently require almost an immediate upgrade in order to be competitive. Instead, Dish plans to deploy a 5G capable network, focused on supporting IOT, the first to be deployed in these bands anywhere in the world.”
4G/LTE has been introduced by a lot of companies in the world. According to the Dish, if the company will create similar technology, they will have to upgrade it for competing to the rivals. This would give no profit to the company. Also, it will be of no benefit for the people who are already using the 4G/LTE technology.
After much consideration, the FCC ruled out two options for the company to use its spectrum. Opting the first option, the company would have to use the proportion of its allocations by the end of the month and complete the whole thing by 2021. Opting the second option, the company would have to meet an accelerated stir for the completed network by 2020. The company went with the second option and is now working on completing the project by March 2020.
What is NB-IoT technology?
This technology can open new doors to the further new advancements in the technologies. This will use 3GPP’s NB-IoT standards. Using this technology, the area of ten times the area per towers as it would have been covered by the LTE technology. Also, the data rates will be lower. After all the planning and creating a period, the next step will be working with the vendors and partners in selecting the equipment that will be able to support this technology. The company has been working for years to make their system of spectrum assets able to support this NB-IoT technology.
