Chairman Pakistan Engineering Council Visits Usman Institute of Technology

Engr. Jawed SalimQureshi, Chairman Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) along with a delegation of prominent engineers, paid a visit to Usman Institute of Technology on Thursday, 23rd February 2017 to have an interactive dialogue with the students, faculty and management of the institute.

The other members of the delegation were Engr. Amir Zaheer Ahmed, Convener, Chairman’s Taskforce, PEC; Engr. AyazMirza; Engr. Taqseer Ahmed Khan; Engr. Idrees Khan; Engr. FarhadAdil, Ex-President NesPak and Ex-Member of Board of Governance, PEC; Dr Sarosh Lodi, Professor and Dean Faculty of Civil Engineering and Architecture, NED University; and Engr. Sohail Bashir, Chairman, International Affairs, IEP.

In his welcome address, Dr Zahir Ali Syed, Director, UIT, hailed the efforts of PEC for helping the engineering community. Dr.Zahir Ali Syed also assured PEC chairman ofUIT’s full support for the various initiatives that PEC is undertaking for the betterment of the engineering community.

While speaking on the occasion, Chairman PEC, said:““Engineers play a vital role in the economic development of any country by solving problems being faced by the Government, Industry and Society. They come up with innovative products and services that make our lives simpler, safer and more efficient.”

He implored the engineers “to always uphold the highest ethical values, be a better citizen and sincere professionals. They should always stand-up for merit, transparency, safety and come up with a design that gives the highest economic impact. They should never give in to corruption, nepotism or biases on the basis of cast, creed, colour, gender, religion, language or sect”

He also talked about the various initiatives that Pakistan Engineering Council has undertaken or is in the process of undertaking to facilitate the engineering community. Some of the initiatives are: Creating 5000 jobs for fresh Engineers by introducing “Supervisory License”; Online registration of engineers; Ensuring that the contractors, consultants and developers employ qualified engineers; Development of a job portal to connect engineers with the employers; Institution of Think-Tank groups on various issues of National Importance and Service structure for Engineers.

The session was also addressed by Engr. Amir Zaheer Ahmed. It was attended by UIT’smanagement, faculty and students. During the session, students and the faculty members interacted freely with the delegation members and got clarifications on various matters of their concern.

Concluding the session, Engr. Sohail Bashir thanked the management of UIT for arranging the session with an advice to the young engineers to always keep a positive outlook on life and keep their knowledge and skills abreast with the latest in their respective fields.
