Bullet proof glass panels to secure Eiffel Tower

Bullet proof glass panels to secure Eiffel Tower. In a bid to tighten security on Eiffel Tower, bullet proof glass fence is taking place of metal fence there so that the monument and the visitors to the place are protected more than ever before.

The step of replacing metal fence with bullet proof glass fence is taken to safe guard the visitors from potential terrorist attacks, according to different news and reports.

The glass panels that are getting place of metal fence are nearly 10 feet high and more than 2 inches thick.  NPR has reported that glass panels are being installed at the north and south ends of the Paris monument called Eiffel Tower.

The reports also suggest that a metal fence has been installed on the east and west sides to prevent vehicles from breaching the site.

According to the reports on BBC News, this project of replacing metal fence with bulletproof glass was started last year and the amount allocated for this project is $40 million. This security project is being said to be completed in mid-July.

Temporary barriers that were installed back in 2016 after a series of terror attacks in France could be replaced by these glass panels and metal fence on the edges.

Though the step is taken not to be changed, critics like some neighborhood residents are criticising the this security project with statements depicting the monument not more than a measure that could turn the monument into a fortress.

Eiffel Tower is the wrought iron tower that has been named after engineer Gustave Eiffel whose company built the structure. This tower was constructed as the entrance for the 1889 World’s Fair.

Authorities are quite hopeful to get increased revenues with the building as they expect up to 7 million people as visitors of  the tower this year.
