If you still happen to be using either the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge or the Samsung galaxy Note 5, then I’m afraid I have some bad news for you. The most recent updates or security patches for both the phones that came in August of this year certainly seem to be the last of the line, so if you’re looking forward for further updates in the future – don’t.
It has been revealed that both the phones have been removed from Samsung’s list of devices which will receive future Android updates.
However, to say that the removal of the S6 edge plus from the devices which will receive future updates is surprising is not unusual. Back in March, we saw not only the S6 getting the disapproval but the S6 Edge as well. So even though the S6 Edge plus got to hang out for a little while longer than its siblings, the removal was imminent.

The Galaxy Note 5’s removal too was anticipated. At this moment in time, the phone is around three years old, and as per Samsung’s policy – which states that there would be updates for its flagship phones for a minimum of two years – the dismissal of the Galaxy Note 5 too, much like the s6 edge plus was imminent. And if you have a look at this policy, the Note 5 actually got an extra year to its credit, so the users of the phone should be thankful if anything.
Of course, if there is to be a serious flaw in the software which NEEDS to be patched and needs immediate attention, then there is the probability of a further update, however, this scenario is quite unlikely.
Looking further, if you still want your Note 5 or S6 edge plus to receive updates, then that too can be done. In order for such a process to work, you will have to flash a custom ROM such as LineageOS. The process for that is not too difficult, so if you’re interested, go and have a look and give it a go.
