The Malaysian auto giant Proton is to open up a production facility in Pakistan – in the first half of next year, with the setup set to take place in Pakistan’s economic hub of Karachi. Also, it has to be noted that Pakistan’s national carrier in PIA will also be adding a new direct flight from Lahore to Kuala Lumpur – with the stage set for implementation.
FO, in a statement said : “Both leaders recalled the symbolic ground breaking of the Proton Assembly Plant jointly officiated in Islamabad on 22 March 2019, and were pleased to note the progress made at the facility in Karachi, scheduled for completion in the first half of 2021. They were further please with the joint venture between Malaysians Proton Holdings and Pakistan’s AL-Haj Automotive that add value with the commencement of selling Malaysian-made Proton Vehicles (CBU) in Pakistan in the second half of 2020, and eventually, assembly and sale of Pakistan-made Proton vehicles (CKD) in Pakistan in the first half of 2021.”

When the case does become so, the plant in Karachi would actually be Proton’s very first production facility in the South Asian region.
Last year, the Malaysian government progressed to dispose off a Proton X70 car to the government of Pakistan – as a gift for the country’s Prime Minister in Imran Khan.
But there weren’t just agreements over into the auto sector, as both Malaysia and Pakistan agreed for collaboration in the area of halal food and services, along with consumer products.
Both countries will explore all the possible areas that might bring about potential cooperation in the sector of trade and investment – these including the likes of renewable energy, natural resources, digital technology, artificial intelligence and finally : e-commerce.
