The 5G market isn’t too far from taking over, and while companies begin to take charge of the technology, one company that seemed to be lagging behind was Apple – though this is likely to change very soon. While Apple is moving forward, there have been reports which suggest that the company’s first flagship phone with a 5G supported won’t be coming any time before 2020. And while this is the time scale given, it makes things all the more surprising, especially when considering the fact that Apple’s fiercest rival, Samsung is expected to launch its upcoming flagship phone with the support of 5G at hand.
With the latest reports in mind, it is expected that Apple will use the 8060-chip as a prototype to test the iPhone’s compatibility for 5G. The 8161-chip, which is manufactured by Intel is the one which is expected to be fabricated using Intel’s 10-nanometer process, for the case of better speed, and better efficiency. And though the chip was expected to be brought into earlier, there were some setbacks during Intel’s production of the 10nm fabrication process, which eventually went on to lead to the delay.

What’s up with Apple and Qualcomm?
Qualcomm has made claims that Apple stole its 5G technology, and provided them to the company’s rival, Intel. That is why it would seem that Apple would have no interest in reopening contract talks with the chipset company, after a lawsuit arrived. This tussle also goes on to suggest why Apple will be a year late in supplying 5G capable phones to the market, and this would obviously be music to Samsung’s ears. And in turn, Qualcomm has already manufactured 5G enabled chips, and several of the Android players are rumored to have been equipped by a Qualcomm chipset, for the purposes of 5G technology.
Even if you don’t take into consideration the tussle between Qualcomm and Apple, history shows us that Apple has always seemingly been late over adopting new technologies. This became even more evident when there were some internet speed tests which were held between Samsung’s latest flagship phone, the Note 9, and the iPhone X –the X lost, and it wasn’t even a fair contest. Even if you take into consideration the 4G LTE technology – this arrived as late as 2012 for Apple, with the release of the Apple iPhone 5, while many of its rivals had already adopted the technology long before.
