Apple Beats Recently Launched S9 In Best-Selling Smartphones Rankings. It is just 8 months after the release of the iPhone X from Apple when continuing market research finds that iPhones continue to pack a list of the top-10 smartphones that are sold not in some specific country but worldwide.
A research called the latest Counterpoint Market Pulse based on data from April and that released this week, has find that Samsung’s Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus have taken the top two spots in global smartphone market share, with 2.6 % each.
However, the same research has also revealed that the Apple takes 5 of the top 10 spots on the list, with its three models released in 2017 —the iPhone X, iPhone 8 Plus & iPhone 8 —taking the 3rd through fifth spots, with 2.3, 2.3 & 2.2 per cent.
Additionally, the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 7 took the 7th and 9th spots, with 1.4 per cent each. Xiaomi devices took the 6th and eighth spots, with the Samsung Galaxy S8 ranked number 10.

Among some of the reasons behind the top ranks of S9 models is that they are much newer as have been released in March and April in most countries, while the latest iPhone line has been available since late 2017.
According to Counterpoint, seasonality plays a big role in this quarter’s sales figures.
Another reason for the top rank of S9 models is that carriers have been offering buy-one-get-one nearly since launch, and this is the thing not done with the iPhone X until recently.
“Samsung price cuts on older Galaxy S8 series along with aggressive marketing and cashback offers, easy EMI’s amongst other factors drove sales for premium flagships” mentions Counterpoint alongside citing the S9’s strong performance in North America and the Asia-Pacific region.
Apple’s Tim Cook claims that Apple’s earnings increased because the iPhone X had been the top-selling smartphone in the world every week since its release.
