APPLE AIRPOWER CANCELLED

Apple has officially cancelled its hot (literally) and very much hyped airpower.

Back in 2017, during the iPhone X event, Apple made the world aware of its plan of completely renovating the wireless charger department in a way never done before and the world was convinced. Supposedly, the charger was supposed to charge all three of the Apple’s latest devices wirelessly, but here’s the fun part. The charger was supposed to charge the device in any orientation across the charging pad. Whenever a device would be placed, the charger was to detect the device and show the charging percentage accordingly. So why did this got cancelled?

Well, the tech behind it goes something like this. For wireless charging to work, there has to be a coil in the device and a coil in the charger. When these coils come in contact with each other the device charges. That is the reason why all other wireless chargers have a particular placement of the device where it will charge. However, Apple had planned to allow device to be put anywhere on the pad, which meant there would be a lot more coils inside the charger than usual. Guess which problem that presents? Thermal issues.

Apple couldn’t engineer a possible way to fit that many coils inside the chargers without raising heating concerns. Apple itself cited:

“After much effort, we’ve concluded AirPower will not achieve our high standards and we have cancelled the project. We apologize to those customers who were looking forward to this launch. We continue to believe that the future is wireless and are committed to push the wireless experience forward,” said Dan Riccio, Apple’s senior vice president of Hardware Engineering in an emailed statement today.

Throughout 2018, there were various rumours about Apple engineers facing challenges with overheating and other issues that were holding up the product. It seems these issues were not solvable.
