Every year, we get a new major Android update and Google presents us with something better, and that just about brings about enough excitement and spark to last us another year, till we get a newer version of the Android update.
This year, Google has brought along the Android Pie, as the latest version of Android. The update became official on the 6th of August, and while the users of Google Pixel phones were handed out updates immediately, users of other phones had to wait, and indeed are still waiting. The users of Sony mobile phones are no different either, as they too have to wait to get their hands on the latest update that Google has to offer.
Sony announced that their premium phones are due for their updates starting November. These premium phones range from the likes of the Xperia XZ2, XZ2 Premium, XZ2 Compact, Xperia XZ Premium, XZ1 and XZ1 Compact. And while the users of these phones should be expecting the update to come around any time in November, the owners of XA2, XA2 Ultra and XA2 Plus will have to wait even longer to get their hands on the update – as they would have wait up until early 2019.

But that’s all good. Sure the update is here now, and the owners are all waiting and are excited to get their hands on the latest software. But one question that often pings the mind of people involved is – why does it take so long for the manufacturers to roll out a new version of an operating system? Why can’t they just roll out the OS as soon as it is released by Google? Well, Sony went out and answered this question, which often occupies the minds of many.
To put it simply, the process is extremely complex, however, Sony themselves tried to explain exactly why it takes so long.
Basically, there goes a lot, from getting the bits until rolling them out, Manufactures have to adapt the code and make it work on their hardware. Now it wouldn’t take a genius to understand that this process would take a lot of time because there is so much detail that needs to go along with this. One little mistake can potentially ruin the whole process, so the manufacturers need to often take their time and build things from scratch, year in year out.
Not only this, but the manufacturers are also required to apply their own customization. And as stated earlier, after the process of customizations, comes the process of testing. The tests need to be carried out both internally and externally. And this has to be done for every model individually.
