After Muslims contribution in World Cup victory, can France finally throw off racism. France’s exciting win against Croatia for the FIFA World Cup 2018 held on Sunday has flashed an online discussion on different social media platforms regarding Islamophobia and racism. Since, the diversity of the national team raises hopes for Muslims to back away racism in France.
France’s team has known as one of the most culturally-diverse teams of the league. As, out of 23 players, the team has a total of 15 players that are of African descent and 7 of them are Muslims.
In this regard, a tweet by Khaled Beydoun has earned a massive attention, that voices his opinion regarding how migrants, mostly Africans and Muslims contributed to France’s unbelievable victory over opponent Croatia.
In his tweet, Khaled wrote,
“Dear France, Congratulations on winning the #WorldCup . 80% of your team is African, cut out the racism and xenophobia. 50% of your team are Muslims, cut out the Islamophobia. Africans and Muslims delivered you a second World Cup, now deliver them justice”.

Khaled is also the author of famous book ‘Islamophobia’ and he clearly gave his message and urged authorities to bring an end to problems like xenophobia Addressing the government to give justice just as immigrants given France a second World Cup. Khaled’s tweet has been retweeted and liked by millions of people.
Liberté, egalité, Mbappé! Meaning “liberty, equality and fraternity” is the national motto of France team. After France’s World Cup victory on Sunday, this French slogan was rewritten to rejoice a winning goal by a 19-year-old player who belongs to Paris border and donating his World Cup fee to charity because for him “it is such an honor to play for his national team”.
On the other hand, the reaction of Muslim players Paul Pogba and Djibril Sidibé was to face down themselves in prayer at their win. How could a country so puzzled with injustice towards minorities get behind a team that reflects all its own challenges back at it?
According to a surprising recent report by the French national commission on human rights (CNCDH) says that Muslims “remain among the least accepted minorities, with the rejection often extending from Islam, to the entirety of its practitioners”.
