Affordable flagship phones are a bit of a trend now, and this trend is ever increasing. We’ve seen a handful of affordable flagships in 2018 that come with an affordable price, with the the Pocophone F1 being the prime example.
One company that certainly helped set the trend of affordable flagships, and is following upon on such endeavors is Nubia. Over the years, we’ve seen some great affordable phones from the company, and with the latest phone in mind, they’ve exceeded expectations once again.
The Nubia Z18 has just been announced in China, and while it is true that it may not be as cheap as the PocophoneF1, it certainly offers the specs you’d expect coming from a phone twice its price tag. Think about it – you’re getting the highest standard of chipset, the Snapdragon 845, following two variants – one coming with 6GB of RAM, while the other featuring 8GB of RAM. There are also two storage options for the phone, 64 and 128 gigs.
The phone features a more than decent 6-inch 2160 X 1080 display, coming along with a water drop notch, and while there isn’t an super AMOLED display to play along, the LCD will do the job. To support this, the phone comes with a 3450 mAh battery, which will probably get you through the day without many worries. All this wrapped up in a glass body, with a rear fingerprint scanner integrated right on the back.

The camera
While the phone is no doubt impressive in other areas, one area which it is especially expected to thrive in is the camera department. The Nubia Z18 comes with a 16MP + 24MP dual camera setup, with each camera having a wide f/1.6 aperture. The setup also boasts AI-powered scene recognition and optical image stabilization (OIS), however, whether or not the optical image stabilization actually applies to one or both the cameras is not as of yet confirmed.
Enough about the camera though. Talking about the software department, the Nubia Z18 has a wide collection of AI- related services and functions. These range from the likes of Google Now-style smart cards, to the Maverick Voice assistant, to the location-based info cards, amongst other suggested apps. On the other hand, the phone packs Nubia UI 6.0 atop Android 8.1.
Even though some features, like the option of microSD expansion, or the removal of the headphone jack can be a bit of nuisance, it should be taken into account that these exceptions are probably down toeconomic reasons – after all, it is an affordable flagship.
So exactly how much would the phone set you back? The 6GB/64GB model is expected to carry a price tag of around $409, while the 8GB/128GB variant is likely to cost around $482. Taken into consideration all the brilliant specs, and the powerful processor, a price tag of $410 is without doubt a bargain. What do you think? Do tell us your thoughts and regards.
