The era of 5G phones and 5G technology got off to a start this year, however, they don’t seem to be as popular right now as they will be a couple of years from now. The demands for the 5G enabled devices is low since many carriers are still testing their 5G networks. There are also just a handful of 5G phones which are available on the market – with these including the likes of the Galaxy S10 5G, the LG V50 ThinQ and the OnePlus 7 Pro amongst others. Next year though, it is quite likely that we will see a large amount of 5G devices making their debuts, however, a research firm has now predicted that the 5G platform will only bring a significant upgrade in the data speeds and will only be a norm only in the next four years.
The research firm going by the name of Canalys has made the prediction that 5G phones will be on top of the selling charts – ahead of 4G ones. In more simpler words, between now and 2023, more carriers are definitely likely to deploy not only their 5G infrastructures but also more OEMs will launch flagship as well as mid-range 5G devices. It has also been predicted that most of this process is likely to take place in China – a direct consequence of the continuing support that the Chinese government provides to its tech companies.

On a more global scale though, it has been estimated that 5G devices will peak at around that of 800 million units – which if true, will make up 51.4 percent of the market share. And as far as China is mentioned in that conversation, the country will account for 34 percent, while North America will likely occupy 18.8 percent.
Nicole Peng, who happens to be the vice president of mobility at Canalys has recently said : “China is also home to many major 5G equipment supplier and smartphone vendors, which will be responsible for an aggressive marketing push over the next few years.”He continued by saying : “But mass market adoption of 5G smartphones does not necessarily mean a successful 5G deployment. The full 5G deployment will take much longer, and be much more complex than the previous network generation, in order to realize the benefits of 5G beyond eMBB (enhanced Mobile Broadband)”.
