Currently, all the tech giants are looking forward to doing their best to get hands on AI, VR, and AR, then how Samsung is supposed to remain relaxed. As you know on October 2016, Samsung announced that it had made successful dealings with Artificial Intelligence AI startup Viv Labs. But actually, they were not able to acquire the deal at the time due to the financial issues. The earlier contract for 238.93 billion won on Friday, October 8, when the Korean won was equal to $0.0009 — so it paid roughly $215 million.
Since Viv Labs has been taken over by Samsung Research America; Viv Labs has generated a loss of $3.08 million. That’s not good news, especially when you take into account that the startup received $30 million in three funding rounds before being sold out. The thing that is still unclear, what plans does Samsung have to use the Viv technology, that can surface information based on voice input, like Siri, which is gaining popularity these days.
It was earlier revealed in a report that the South Korean company would bake Viv into its next flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S8. Yet the rumors surrounding its in-house virtual assistant Bixby launching on the handset appears to shun that theory. We can’t yet conclude that Samsung may have been only acquired Viv Labs to analyze the technology uses, in order to make its own AI stronger, other competitors are also on board.
